WHY WAS A NEW RESCUE SIGNAL REQUIRED?
WHY WAS A NEW RESCUE SIGNAL REQUIRED?THE SURE-FIND ROCKET DEPLOYED RESCUE STREAMER and fire starter kit! why was it needed?
The SURE-FIND rescue signal was designed in response to the inability of existing search and rescue crews to rapidly locate lost or missing people. Outdoor sports enthusiasts become lost, injured or both every year. Many are found too late or never found at all EVER. Typically the lost person is not formally declared missing for at least 3 hours after being reported overdue. Once declared missing it is usually too late to start a search for them that evening. On the following day a ground and or air search is started in the area the missing person was thought to be in. The missing person has probably spent the better part of the day traveling on foot and only when it gets dark do they appreciate the situation they are in. That being said. They are totally lost, possibly injured or immobilized, and its to dark to proceed. They are cold, tired and faced with spending the night outside unprotected. Unfortunately to protect themselves they seek the protection of heavy timber or cover to reduce exposure to the elements. If seriously injured in heavily forested or rough terrain, they are effectively immobilized. They cannot relocate themselves to an area where air or ground search personal can find them. In the event that the person missing is severely injured they may not even be able to remain cognitive or respond to assistance. Events of this nature can lead to the searchers passing within a very close distance to the missing person with neither party becoming aware of the other. The results are obvious. The missing person remains lost and perishes within a few days to a week. An even shorter time in cases of injury, insects, exposure, poor weather, health or medical conditions.
The SURE-FIND Signal was designed to go to work about the same time the missing person realizes that they are in fact lost or they are injured to such a degree that they cannot relocate. If seriously injured, they may in fact be unable to respond to a rescue attempt within a very short period of time. Always use a SURE-FIND while you still can and before the area is searched.
The SURE-FIND signal was designed to take advantage of heavy timber or other obstructing structures, ice crevice walls, rock canyons etc. The signal was also designed to function after deployment until the person is found with no further action being taken by the person that deployed the signal, even if that person is totally incapable of a response.
The SURE-FIND signal was designed to work in all weather conditions all year. Snow, rain, high winds, etc. The SURE-FIND signal was designed to be used by someone that is injured. It only requires the use of one hand to set it up and actuate properly. It can be actuated with in the reach area of a severely injured person safely and effectively. The only requirements of the SURE-FIND signal are that it be used as soon as the lost person is willing to except their circumstances. As with all searches it also requires that the person remain stationary to keep them from wondering into areas already covered in a search for them.
The SURE-FIND signal is the only one of its kind that takes into consideration the user may be incapacitated with in a short period of time or that the user is probably not in the most search friendly terrain. The SURE-FIND when activated provides the highest visibility for the longest period of time in all conditions. It has the ability to shed snow and freezing rain as it accumulates, It will function until it is removed period. The SURE-FIND signal’s remains can help prevent you from succumbing to hypothermia by providing excellent fire tinder, making it possible for you to start a fire in the most adverse weather conditions.
Considering that most lost people if on foot are located within a radius of 10 miles from their point of departure. Air searches with in this area are quite intense, often with contours of 500’ vertical being flown over the area. Unfortunately at a search aircraft’s speed of 90-150 mph. if your injured on the ground in even light cover they will not see you without a SUREFIND
